What is a lab grown diamond?
A lab grown diamond is a real diamond. It is made of the same pure carbon, arranged in the same crystal structure, as a diamond taken from the earth. The only difference is where it was formed – in a controlled laboratory instead of deep underground.
Same diamond
Chemically, physically and optically the same as a mined diamond – the same hardness, the same fire, the same brilliance.
Grown, not mined
Scientists recreate the heat and pressure of the earth (HPHT) or grow the crystal layer by layer from carbon gas (CVD). Both produce genuine diamond.
Graded the same way
Lab grown diamonds are judged on the same 4Cs – cut, colour, clarity and carat – as any mined diamond.

The sparkle
How well the diamond is shaped and polished. A better cut returns more light to your eye – it matters more than anything else for brilliance.
The whiteness
Graded on a scale from D (colourless) downwards. The less colour, the rarer and brighter the diamond looks.
The purity
Tiny natural marks inside or on the stone. Many are invisible to the naked eye – we show you which ones matter and which do not.
The weight
The weight of the diamond, not its size alone. Two stones of the same carat can look different depending on the cut.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. It is pure carbon with the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, so it has the same hardness, brilliance and fire. It is not a simulant like cubic zirconia or moissanite.
Will it pass a diamond tester?
Yes. A standard diamond tester identifies a lab grown diamond as diamond. Only specialised laboratory equipment can tell whether a diamond was grown or mined.
Will my lab grown diamond lose its shine?
No. Like any diamond it does not fade or go cloudy. A simple clean now and then keeps it sparkling.
Why does a lab grown diamond cost less?
It is formed in weeks in a laboratory instead of being found and mined from the earth, so the cost of bringing it to you is lower – the diamond itself is the same.
